Avalon Offers Sunday Household Trash And Recycling Dropoff Times
(Avalon, NJ)Avalon’s Department of Public Works announced that it has begun the post-season practice of offering a manned location for the drop off of household trash and recycling.
“This is a tremendous convenience for both the year-‘round resident, and people who visit Avalon on the weekends during the post season”, said Avalon’s Acting Public Works Superintendent Bill Macomber. “We’re pleased to offer this service as a convenience, and as a way to keep Avalon clean of trash and litter”.
The borough is providing a manned location at the 15th Street Public Works Yard entrance on Sundays, from Noon-5pm during the offseason. Household trash and recycling will be accepted at the yard in a designated container.
The following dates Sundays are offered through the offseason:
2010:
January 17th, 24th, and 31st
February 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th
March 7th, 14th, 15th, 21st, and 28th
April 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th
May 2nd, 9th, 16th
For your convenience, please put your address on your trash cans, and lids. That way in the event of high winds, your containers can be returned to your property. Thank you!

Recyclables
Recyclables are collected once per week throughout the year on the first trash collection day of the week. (Section #1 Monday; Section #2 - Tuesday and Section#3 - Wednesday). Stickers for recyclables and grass may be obtained at the Public Works Office at 15th Street & Dune Drive. The Borough does not supply trash/recycling containers. Please Note:
1. Trash and Recyclables Trash and recyclables are to be placed curbside by 7A.M. Trash and recycling will not be collected on these holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day. By Ordinance No. 578-2006, containers shall have a capacity of no greater than thirty-five (35) gallons and a total weight not to exceed fifty (50) pounds each. o bulk items (household furnishings) will be collected with trash.
2. Brush and Grass Clippings Brush and grass clippings will be picked up on Thursdays. Use of plastic bags for clippings is prohibited. White goods/metal will be picked up on Fridays.
3. Recycling is Mandatory in New Jersey. Recycle (a) all newspaper, magazines, cardboard and office paper (gray - shoe, cereal or food boxes not recycled) and placed in paper bags or reusable containers and (b) all rinsed glass bottles and jars, aluminum and tin cans, and household plastic bottles and place in a container with a "recycling" sticker. Use of plastic bags for recycling is strictly prohibited. There is a courtesy trash area at 15th Street and Dune Drive behind the Public Works Building. In summer (Memorial Day - Labor Day) it is open Monday through Friday, 7:30am-3:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday 7:00am-1:00pm. In the winter it is open Monday - Friday, 7:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. and Sunday, 12 Noon-5:00pm except holidays.
4. Use of plastic bags for trash is strictly prohibited, unless inside a container with a secure lid. All trash and recycling cans must be permanently labeled with the address of the owner in lettering not less than two inches in height.
5. No Bulky Items (household furnishings) will be collected with trash. You may place bulk trash at the curb anytime from April 30th through May 9th, and all items must be curbside no later than 7:00am on May 10th. During the fall, you may place bulk trash at the curb anytime from September 3rd through September 12th, and all items must be curbside no later than 7:00am on September 13th. Construction materials are not collected at any time. Recycling Center Relocated
The recycling center formally located at the rear of Police Department parking lot has been relocated to the 15th Street and Dune Drive at the Avalon Public Works Facility. The hours of operation Monday through Friday are 7:30 a.m. through 3:00 p.m.
